This Program innovates in Chile by focusing with a systemic vision the formation of graduates of excellence in research, trained in theoretical and experimental aspects in different areas of Applied Sciences, specifically in the field of Aquatic Systems, thus contributing to regional and national scientific development.

This Program has a defined scientific and systemic character as well as a declared biological orientation. Our graduates are prepared to plan and develop original and independent research in the diverse thematic and/or scientific and technological problems of the Aquatic Systems and their services in order to ensure their sustainable productive development.

The research lines developed by our academics are Patterns and Processes in Aquatic Ecology, including the marine and freshwater aspects of Ecology in relation to the levels of organization of Ecology of Populations and Communities, and their interfaces with Genetic, Evolutionary and Biogeographic processes. Including interactions at the parasitic and epidemiological levels. Aquatic Resources Management, including basic and applied aspects of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology in marine and freshwater environments. Environment and Conservation of Aquatic Systems, which focuses on environmental and conservation applications in marine and freshwater environments in the following thematic areas: Eco-toxicology/Contamination, Invasive Species, Paleoceanography/Sedimentology, Modeling, Extreme and Desert Environments, Biological Oceanography.

The university began as Corporación Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia in 1978, then became Corporación Universitaria de Ciencias Agropecuarias – CUCA, in 1983. Since 1985 it expanded its program offerings, in 1989 classes began on the university campus, in 1992 the agronomy engineering career began, in 1993 the career of Sports Sciences, in 1994 the career of Marketing Sciences was implemented, whose name was changed to Commercial Engineering. In 1995 the name was changed to Corporación Universitaria de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales U.D.C.A. Afterwards, the institution continued to grow, starting programs in medicine, nursing, geographic engineering, and postgraduate training in the areas of veterinary and zootechnical sciences, and accrediting high quality programs.

In 2004 the U.D.C.A. was recognized as a University, and in 2005 the name Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales U.D.C.A. was approved. In December 2016 the UDCA received the high quality accreditation granted by the Ministry of Education to the MEDICINE program,

It can be compared to a Technical College or a Polytechnic. The offer of studies is wide, but the careers are usually more technical compared to those offered by a university.
