Shadows chasing her, screams of terror in the night, banging on the wall with no one on the other side… and the same «absolute evil»: these are just some of the episodes that this young woman suffered after entering a New Age disguised as Christianity.
«Once I entered a church, I heard the priest speaking and suddenly I felt that he was not telling me anything. I just felt empty and even though I wanted him to come back, I rejected him, blaming him for my depression and for making me believe he existed,» she says.
And with some self-help and New Age books recommended by her therapist came comfort. Or at least what she believed was the comfort promised by the New Age, convinced that it would take away her suffering.
She was especially fond of Helen Schucman’s A Course in Miracles, a book famous in New Age circles but criticized for its imitation of the New Testament. Precisely for this reason it awakened Marie Eugenie’s nostalgia, as well as doubts about the path she had taken.
In the midst of spiritual combat, Marie Eugenie desperately wanted to return to the faith, but she no longer remembered anything about Christ. She only had the disfigured image presented to her by the manual of A Course in Miracles, while her life «began to collapse».
