Denis Laurence Dutton (February 9, 1944 – December 28, 2010)[1] was an American philosopher of art, web entrepreneur and media activist. He was a professor of philosophy at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was also co-founder and co-editor of the websites Arts & Letters Daily, ClimateDebateDaily.com, and cybereditions.com.[2]

Dutton wrote about authenticity in art and distinguished between nominal authenticity, in which a work of art is correctly attributed to its author rather than being a forgery, and expressive authenticity, in which a work is a true expression of an individual’s or society’s values and beliefs. . [10]

As editor of the journal Philosophy and Literature, Dutton ran the Bad Writing Contest, which aimed to «expose ‘pretentious, blustering gibberish’ masquerading as scholarship at major universities.» [3] In 1995, the contest was won by Homi K. Bhabha and Fredric Jameson.[16] In 1998, the contest awarded first place to philosopher and University of California-Berkeley professor Judith Butler, for an oration that appeared in the journal diacritics.[17] Butler defended her work from accusations of academic pedantry and obscurantism in the pages of The New York Times.[18] Dutton then ended the contest.

The fifteenth edition of The Lambeth Conference will be held July 26-August 8 in Canterbury. The conference is approaching and the Archbishop of Canterbury is issuing a call to prayer to conference delegates and their wider church communities. The call to prayer is an invitation to dedicate one day, Trinity Sunday, June 12, to pray for the event during the summer.

As part of its work, the task force called the Anglican Communion to a period of repentance around the fifth Sunday in Lent (March 21, 2021). At their meeting in Jordan in January 2020, the primates reflected on the work of the task force and recommended a collection of prayers that can be used as part of this period of repentance.
